NFL Bench Warmer News: March 2014

10. Robert Quinn

Robert Quinn came from an unknown player for a terrible team to the Ram's Face of the Franchise. Quinn was drafted in the 2011 draft (which may be as good as the 1983 draft). The Mighty Quinn had impressive sacks which included 50 tackles, seven fumble forces, and two fumble recoveries for 33 yards. In the 2013 season, he had the greatest play of his career. The game was against the Chicago Bears, he sacked the Quarterback, forced a fumble, recovered it, and ran it back for six. Robert Quinn statistically ranked second in sacks, with 18.0, which broke the Rams single season sack record. He was All-Pro and was the pro-bowl defensive captain. I can't think of one team that wouldn't want him.

9. Robert Mathis

Even though Mathis has been in the league since 2003, I think of him as the new Gregg Lloyd. No Quarterback would want to play against this outstanding pass rusher. He was the number one sack leader this year with 19.5 sacks. He was not only a good pass rusher, he was also an incredible hitter. Mathis had 46 tackles and forced 10 fumbles. Whenever Robert was at his opponents 1 or 2 yard, he looked like Doug English; Mathis couldn't wait to sack the Quarterback. This year, Luke Kuechly beat Mathis for AP Defensive Player of the Year, but he did won the Deacon Jones Award which goes to the player with the most sacks. This is why Mathis is the highest ranked defensive player on my list.

8. Megatron

Not only does Calvin Johnson have the best nickname, he also has one of the greatest careers. Every season, Johnson continues to improve, and this season is debatable to be his best. Johnson stats were outstanding, with 1492 receiving yards (3rd in league), 12 receiving touchdowns (fifth in league), and 84 receptions (14th in league). Johnson also had seven games with 100+ receiving yards! Megatron nearly broke a record for most receiving yards in a single game. On October 10, the Lions were playing against the Cowboys and Calvin had 14 receptions and had 329 receiving yards! He also has everything that a star receiver needs. He's 6'5, fast, a high jumper, a great route running, and a record breaker. This is why the legendary Megatron made my list.

7. Drew Brees

At first, when I was making this list, I didn't make this put Drew Brees on it, but when I saw that he threw for 5,162 yards, I knew that I'd have to put him on my list. If it wasn't for Peyton Manning, Brees would have been a league leader for passing. He had 650 attempts (third in the league) and 446 completions (second in the league). Drew Brees was also second in the league (again behind Peyton Manning) with 39 touchdown passes. He gave the Saints an 11-5 record and brought them to the Divisional Playoffs. He made to the pro bowl this year and was the team captain for Team Sanders. If Peyton Manning didn't play this year, Brees would definitely be the best quarterback.

6. Jimmy Graham

The league leader in touchdowns in 2013, was the incredible Jimmy Graham. Most people would think that a leader in receiving touchdowns would be held by a wide receiver, but Graham was a tight end. He had 1,215 receiving yards (15th in league), 86 receptions (13th in league), and 16 touchdowns (1st in league). Jimmy Graham made it to the pro bowl and made it to Matt Gauntner's 2013-2014 All-Pro Team. He is the highest and only tight end on my list, and now you know why.

5. Antonio Brown

NFL.com does this list to and I'm pretty sure that they won't place any Steelers in their top ten list, because for some reason, no matter how good a Steeler is, they seem to always miss their list, but not mine. Pittsburgh has had many great Wide Receivers such as Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Hines Ward, and more. Out of all of Pittsburgh's receivers, Antonio Brown is the single season record holder for receiving yards with 1,499!!! As a (DIE HARD) Steeler fan it was hard to watch their season, especially when they started out 0-4, but watching Jerry Rice, I mean Antonio Brown, made Pittsburgh seem like they were 4-0. Brown had 110 receptions (2nd in league), 93.7 yards per game (5th in league), and surprisingly only 8 touchdowns. Brown is the fifth greatest player in the season of 2013 and it's very understandable why.

4. Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon is an Absolute Outstanding Player and he plays for a not so good team, the Browns. Every NFL fans hate bad teams (unless it's their home team), which is I why hate the Browns and since I'm a (DIE HARD) Steelers fan, I hate the Browns even more; so the only reason I watch Browns games is because of the incredible Josh Gordon. I like to call Gordon, Jerry Rice's worst nightmare, because he's the kind of player who has the chance to break Rice's records. In the 2013 season, Gordon broke 5 records such as, the only player to ever have consecutive 200+ yard games, most receiving yards ever in a four year span with 774 (the talented Wes Welker had 778 in 16 games, this shows how hard this accomplishment is to do), most receiving yards in a single season in Browns history with 1,646, most receiving yards by a Brown in a single game, and most receptions in a single game by a Brown with 14 (tied with Hall of Fame Tight End Ozzie Newsome). Gordon is probably going to be top selling jersey in Cleveland since Lebron James. He led the league in receiving yards (1,646), longest touchdown (95 yards), most yards per game (117.6 yard per game), 87 receptions, and 9 receiving touchdowns. This is obvious why Josh Gordon ranked number four on the list.

3. LeShean McCoy

LeShean McCoy led the NFL in rushing yards with 1,607. Thanks to McCoy, the Eagles made it to the Post-Season before losing to the Saints. In the playoffs, he wasn't so affective, but in the regular season, he was statistically the best running back. He had 313 rushes (1st in league), nine touchdowns (tied for fourth in the league), and a 5.1 average (4th in the league). McCoy won the NFC Offensive Player the Year Award and broke an Eagles record for most rushing yards in a single game with 217. He also broke another Eagles record for most rushing yards in a single season with 1,607. He's the Eagles's new Steve Van Buren and has a chance to be better than Van Buren.

2. Jamaal Charles

Thanks to Jamaal Charles brought the previous 2-14 Chiefs to an 11-5 season. This year Charles rushed for 1,083, leading the AFC in rushing yards. He led the entire NFL in touchdowns with 12. This year Charles went to Hawaii this year for the 2013 Pro Bowl. Out of all of the achievements that he accomplished, the main reason I selected him was because of a certain game. The game was played on December 15 and Charles played like the incredible Marshall Faulk. He rushed for only 20 yards, but he played more like a Receiver in that game than a Running Back. Charles had eight reception, 183 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns all in one game!!! As you can see, Jamaal Charles deserves to be high on my list and I hope you agree.
