Ed Healy was born December 28, 1894 in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts. He grew up with 8 sisters and 0 brothers. Both of the colleges he went to College of the Holy Cross and Dartmouth College. He was a great football player at Dartmouth and he started three years on the college football team. Healy played for the Rock Island Independents from 1920 -1922 as an Offensive Tackle. During a game in 1922 he played a game against the Chicago Bears and the coach George Halas. Healy played such a great game against the Bears that George Halas wanted to have Healy on his team, the Bears. After that game George Halas bought Healey for $100. Healy did a great job for the Chicago Bears a played for the team for eight years. He was nicknamed "Big Ed." Healy was a fast Offensive Tackle. One play, one of Healy's teammates intercepted a pass and ran the wrong way. Healy ran 30+ yards to tackle his own teammate just outside of the wrong end zone. George Halas called Healy "most versatile tackle ever" He play 89 games and recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Healy retired in 1927. He made it to both the College Hall of fame and the Pro Football of Fame. Healy died December 9, 1978 at the age of 83 in South Bend, Indiana.
