If you were ever playing against Doug English and you were at your own 1 or 2 yard line you better get rid of the ball fast because if you didn't you would give up a safety made by Doug English. Doug English was a tall Defensive Linemen for the Detroit Lions weighing 260 pounds and 6'5. English was born in Dallas Texas and went to the high school Bryan Adams High School. English went to the University of Texas and played for the Texas Longhorns and won three Southwest Conference titles. After four years at the University of Texas, English got drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1975 round 2 pick 38. He made it to 4 pro-bowls in 1979, 1981, 1982, and 1983. In 1979 Doug was the defensive MVP with 90 tackles and only 6 sacks. English is tied with two other players in first place named Ted Hendricks and Jared Allen all with 4. English made it to the College Hall of Fame in 2011. Doug English's real name was Lowell Doug English. English (# 75) played 10 long good years all with the Detroit Lions from 1975 - 1985. He ended his career with 59 sacks, 131 games played, and a record setting number of four safeties.
